Suva, Fiji. Recently, the Fiji Development Bank (FDB) organised an awareness session on its products and services held at the Vuna Community Hall in Taveuni. This included focus on its financial literacy program and the loan for women entrepreneurs’ product. A demonstration for online applications and accessing relevant resources was done via the Bank’s website.
The session also highlighted its dalo and kava farming products, along with LTA permits. Queries on dalo farming loans took the spotlight during the Q&A. Three villages took part in the outreach, namely Vuna, Kanacea, and Navakau. Facilitated by the Bank’s Taveuni branch comprising of Mr. Richard Kewal and Ms. Kesia Cavulati, over 60 participants were present.
Notably, the participants were interested in cluster loans with security being provided via Fijian Holdings Limited (FHL) unit shares. Many of the young farmers are engaged with savings through unit shares.
The FDB CEO, Mr. Saud Minam, lauded the passion of the villagers, noting the importance of rural agriculture being the backbone of Taveuni, providing sustenance and economic stability for families.
“Their active participation showcases the strong community spirit and eagerness to learn and grow together. By focusing on initiatives like these awareness sessions, we aim to uplift our local farmers and enrich agricultural practices, fostering a thriving future for Taveuni and its residents.”
He continued saying that, “It’s refreshing to see a great number of young people view farming and agriculture as an opportunity and exciting way forward. This can profoundly change the path of our next generation as well as offer keen lines of diversification for our nation’s economy.”
“These sessions are invaluable for building financial literacy and empowerment within our communities. We remain committed to providing support and resources to help all Fijians achieve their goals and aspirations,” he added.
The hands-on involvement of FDB representatives engaging with villagers, offering guidance and support on financial services, serves as a human connection bridging the gap between the Bank and communities.
For these farming individuals, their financial success is proof of how accumulating shares and leveraging that leads to even greater farming heights. FDB is proud to work alongside entrepreneurs such as these where young farmers toil their lands and reap the fruits of their labour with the Bank’s helping hand.
