In a significant step towards supporting local businesses and resource owners, the Fiji Development Bank (FDB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, participated in the handover of essential machinery to two resource-owner businesses in Nadi.
The event marked the handover of a truck and excavator to Vurabere Investment Pte Limited and an excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Limited. These businesses, specialising in sand and gravel extraction, are now better equipped to manage their operations, thanks to the financial support provided by FDB and additional funding from the Ministry’s Integrated Human Resource Development Programme (IHRDP).
The Acting CEO of FDB, Ms. Titilia Vakaoca Kamil said, “These machines will allow local businesses to take control of their resources, reduce costs, and create much-needed jobs in their communities. This is a strong step towards greater self-reliance and a growth mindset, and we’re proud to be a part of it.”
The handover, led by Hon. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, emphasised the strong partnership between FDB and the Ministry in supporting local businesses and resource owners.
Ms. Kamil added that, “Our collaboration with the Ministry reflects how we can come together to ensure that businesses in Fiji have the tools they need to succeed. When we support businesses like Vurabere Investment and Tokatoka Namara Development, we’re investing in the future of our communities and our economy.”
The acquisition of this machinery will allow both companies to extract their own sand and gravel, significantly lowering their operational costs, increasing productivity and enabling them to remain competitive in their industries. By taking charge of their resources, these businesses are better positioned for long-term sustainability and growth.
“With this new excavator, we can better manage our costs and expand our operations. It opens up new possibilities for our business,” shared a representative from Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Limited. The machines provided by FDB, and the Ministry will enable these companies to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
The handover event, which took place at Dratabu and Maqalevu, Nadi, was attended by 40 participants, including key stakeholders and local representatives. FDB was represented by the Nadi Branch Manager, Mr. Mohammed Jaffar who provided valuable insights into FDB’s ongoing support for businesses across Fiji.
Looking ahead, FDB remains committed to partnering with local businesses and government entities to promote economic growth and sustainability in Fiji’s business sectors. Ms. Kamil said, “Businesses are always welcome to contact the Bank by visiting our branches across Fiji or emailing info@fdb.com.fj for any business inquiry.”
“Our vision is to provide robust services to sectors and enterprises that contribute to the sustainable development of the Fijian economy.”
