Bashir Khan, a famous businessman in Labasa and a Year Four school dropout was astonished when he was given a recognition award by the Fiji Development Bank (FDB) during the golden jubilee celebration on Tuesday night.
The 69-year-old managing director of Vunimoli Sawmill and owner of SB Khan Mall couldn’t stop smiling before guests gathered at the Friendly North Inn in Labasa.
“It was just few hours ago I received a call from FDB staff asking me to be present in this function and I said no because I had to attend a prayer meeting,” Mr Khan said.
“He then kept on insisting, saying it is their bank’s anniversary celebration and I replied I will come after prayer.
“Here I am holding an award in my hand from a bank that I have been with for 46 years.
“FDB is the most trusted and reliable bank and that is why I still choose to be their client.
“They have helped me come out from being a school dropout, a cane cutter to a successful businessman today.
“Thank you FDB for your service and I hope that you would continue to serve people with a similar background that I come from so that shattered dreams can come true.”
