FIJI DEVELOPMENT BANK: Promotion On Loans Launched At FDB’s 50th Anniversary

At Fiji Development Bank (FDB), as of September first, for a period of six months, all application fees for loans under $19,999.99 will be waived, along with the establishment fees for all loans up to $4,999.99.

This special promotion was launched by Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa during the FDB’s 50th anniversary cocktail party at the Friendly North Inn in Labasa last night.

“This promotion as highlighted by the FDB board of directors’ chairperson Robert Lyon is initiated to encourage Fijians, especially in the small and medium enterprise and agricultural sectors to access financing for developing their businesses and capacity in sustaining their businesses,” Mrs Vuniwaqa said.

“Thank you for this initiative FDB and I am sure that you will continue to enhance your sterling record of financial inclusion initiatives as such to continue on this path to development.

“I would like to challenge the FDB board to encourage women entrepreneurs and women wishing to start up their own businesses to access financial assistance through the bank,” she said.

“To be truly inclusive, we need to actively seek for female participations in business.

“We need to assess applications through gendered lens and get rid of gender stereotyping from our work processes.

“We must not limit the diverse capacities of women but must instead encourage them to branch out into the world of business and income generation.

“We must help them realise the dollar value of their creations.

“I urge all Fijians looking to start up or expand their businesses to take advantage of this promotion that will run till March next year.

“We are looking forward to introducing more exciting strategic tools and loan products for our clients, our valued partners in progress.”

Three clients of FDB were given special recognition award.

They were Parbha Wati, 65, a sugarcane farmer of Vunitavawau; Salacieli Ravatuniwasaliwa, a sugarcane, livestock and yaqona farmer of Seaqaqa who joined the Labasa FBD in 1976; and Bashir Khan, a Labasa businessman.
